• Scientists Identify Rust Resistance Genes in Soybeans -- Using state-of-the-art genomics techniques, a team of scientists from the Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Iowa State University (ISU) and Brazil have identified a cluster of soybean genes that provide resistance to the fungus Phakopsora pachyrhizi, which causes Asian soybean rust (ASR).
• Bean Market Outlook -- From the USDA/ERS
• Extended Sign-up Dates for DCP, ACRE Programs and certain CRP Contracts -- Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack announced that USDA has extended the sign-up deadline from June 1, to Aug. 14, 2009, for both the Direct and Counter-cyclical Program (DCP) and the forthcoming Average Crop Revenue Election (ACRE) Program.
