By Lynne Bigwood Northarvest Home Economist
Clockwise starting in upper lefthand corner, Chef NarDanes deli dishes, Black Bean Salsa, Multi-Grain Bean Salad, Malted Chicken & Turkey Chili, and Baked Beans.
Northarvest Bean Growers Associations new deli dishes were big hits at the recent Upper Midwest Restaurant Show.
We featured four recipes created for Northarvest by Chef NarDane. They included NarDanes Black Bean Salsa, NarDanes Malted Chicken & Turkey Chili, NarDanes Non-Traditional Baked Beans and NarDanes Multi Grain Bean Salad. (The baked beans and salsa were served at the Bean Day banquet and lunch.)
So many people were so complimentary about the samples of NarDanes recipes that we asked them to write testimonials. Comments included:
This Black Bean Salsa is my most favorite food Ive tried at the show. Kristen Silbernagel.
Best tasting bean salsa Ive ever tasted. John Shimpach, Como Golf Course.
Great recipe ideas. Thanks. Jrie Webster, Valley Natural Foods.
One of my favorite booths at the UPs show. Gail Lyons, Grand Rapids.
Fantastic, boy was that good! Very Good!
I feel guilty about coming back for more, but it is just so good!
Living Ag Classroom Presents Farm To Fork Message
The Northarvest Bean Growers Association showcased dry beans at KMOT TVs Ag Expo Living Ag Classroom Jan. 24-25
More than 1,000 fourth grade students visited the 10 agricultural promotion committee booths to hear From Farm to Fork messages and see samples and demonstrations of agricultural products. Minot area FFA students served as guides for the groups.
Early each morning Chef NarDane did a final adjustment on the seasoning and quality of the final products in the convention center kitchen. The first day started with a run on the salsa, baked beans and chili. NarDane quickly asked the caterer to finish preparing the dishes they had started for the next day and bring them out. He then doubled or tripled the second days order for salsa, chili and baked beans.
We usually distribute 500 recipe cards at this show. Only 11 were left mid-afternoon of the second day, so we had extra cards sent in overnight for the last day. Hattie Melvin, Northarvest promotion committee member; Chef NarDane, Touch of Magic NarDane, Inc., and I handed out 650 sets of recipe cards and 40 single copies of the salsa recipe.
The excellent, unique food samples and recipes; information about celebrity chef NarDanes rise to success; and our knowledgeable staff were a big hit with food professionals from Minnesota and the five surrounding states.
