Brazil Boost April 11, 2012
In the southern Brazil state of Parana, dry bean acreage is said to be 20 percent higher this year as a result of producers responding to higher prices. Carioca beans, the most common class of beans in Brazil, cost 215 reais (Brazil's currency) in March, more than triple the price last season. The price increase follows declines in the last three years, which caused bean production to decline.
