Brazil Bean Crop Down May 09, 2012
Brazilian consultant Safras and Mercado estimates Brazil's 2011/2012 dry bean production at 3.669 million tons, down three percent from the previous year. An estimated 3.9 million hectares of beans were grown this season, two percent below last year's acreage. However, a report from the southern Brazilian state of Parana says planting of the second crop of beans is 20 percent larger than last year. Yields are also expected to be better than the previous year.
