Canada Bean Boost
May 23, 2012
According to Agriculture and Agrifood Canada, the area seeded to dry beans for 2012-2013 is forecast to increase by 45 percent from last year, to 100,000 hectares. Dry bean production is expected to rise 8 percent, to 200,000 metric tons. Total dry bean supply is expected to increase by 13 percent due to tight carry-in stocks. Exports are forecast to increase due to the increased supply and carryout stocks are also expected to rise. The average Canadian dry bean price is forecast to decline sharply because of the increase in North American supply.
