Farm Bill Stalls
August 03, 2012
After failing to five the 5-year farm bill passed by the Agriculture Committee floor time, House Leadership considered a one-year extenstion of the current farm bill, but with no consensus, House leadership has dropped plans for a one-year farm bill extension. Congress is now on its 5-week August recess. The current farm bill expires September 30th.
The Specialty Crop Farm Bill Alliance strongly supports congressional efforts to reauthorize the farm bill this year. Both the House and Senate have made significant progress in this endeavor by making critical enhancements and reforms to key programs important to specialty crop producers in this country. The Alliance urges Congress to continue moving forward with a legislative process that best achieves those objectives this year.
