BEAN MARKET SUMMARY
BEANS: Trade and demand were very limited this week as most buyers and
sellers are only trading beans on an as needed basis until new crop
arrives. All varieties remained mostly steady to weak on limited transactions,
with wide price spreads being reported due to quality differences. The bean
crop is ahead of schedule in Minnesota and North Dakota, as USDA-NASS
showed 53% and 41% of the crop to be fully podded respectively, compared to 1%
and 3% last year. Colorado and Nebraska both received some cooler temperatures
and scattered precipitation last week. However, the good to excellent rating
in Colorado fell from 30% last week to only 21% this week, with Nebraska also
falling from 48% to 45% . Crop conditions are favorable in Washington with 90%
of the crop rated in good to excellent condition according to NASS.
