Acres Up August 15, 2012
USDA surprised some in the edible bean industry with its planted acreage update in the August Crop Production report, released August 10th. The biggest change from the June Planted Acreage report was in North Dakota, where USDA boosted planted area by 30,000 acres, to 690,000. That's 68 percent more than last year. Minnesota dry bean acreage is unchanged from June. Michigan's planted acres are up 18,000 from June; Idaho is up 10,000 acres, while USDA cut Nebraska's acres by 15,000 from the June report. Nationwide, dry bean acres are 82,000 higher than the June Planted Acreage report.
