No Roundup as desiccant
June 17, 2004

You cannot apply glyphosate (Roundup) as a dry bean desiccant because illegal residues will result in the seed. You can be fined by your state agriculture department for illegal use of a pesticide and your crop can be quarantined or destroyed.

However, progress is being made to register glyphosate for weed desiccation after the dry beans are physiologically mature. There also is progress being made on registering Valor for dry bean desiccation and as a harvest aid in dry beans.

- Richard Zollinger, NDSU extension weed specialist.
