NAFTA Update
December 13, 2017

Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue addressed the National Press Club on Tuesday. A few of his comments focused on the status of the North American Free Trade Agreement. “I intended, frankly, to ask Santa Claus for a perfect final trade deal, wrapped up nicely to put under the tree for all American farmers and then I remembered, the North Pole might be too close to Canada for those things to turn out well for us. All joking aside, I do remain optimistic about the future of our trilateral trading relationship.” Perdue says the U.S. is making terrific progress on trade, but he’s confident a deal can be reached. He also talked about the farm bill. “I don’t think the farm bill will have a radical changes. It’s up for Congress to decide what we will implement. We will stand ready to help implement the farm bill.”
